Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)

Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)

Queen Elizabeth Elementary is actively participating in a province-wide PBIS pilot project, and the lead at QEES will be John Gamble. This is a fundamental shift in how we as teachers and school support staff move toward a systems approach to classroom and school-wide behavior management. PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. This approach will enhance the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school-wide, and classroom behavior support systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. As a school we have developed a behavioral matrix for many different areas including but not limited to classrooms, playgrounds, and hallways. Each matrix teaches students appropriate behaviors which allow students to meet behavior expectations. This approach will create a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach, and all students can learn.

Please keep your eye out for “Paw”sitive referrals which students will be given when they are being Kind, Safe, or Responsible around the school. If your child receives a “Paw”sitive referral, please give them positive praise because they earned it!

Reach out to John Gamble at jngamble@edu.pe.ca if you have any questions!
